Richard Skellett is President and Chief Analyst at Bloor Research, bringing extensive experience across technology, business transformation and organisational change. His research focuses on how AI is changing the system within which organisations, economies and people operate, and the new operating models and architectures required as a result. A central part of his work is Intelligence Architecture: examining how data, information, knowledge, intelligence and human judgement connect to create organisational outcomes.
Richard works both bottom up, from data through information and knowledge towards intelligence, and top down, beginning with wisdom, human intelligence and purpose and working down through knowledge and information to determine what data is actually required. This architectural distinction underpins his research into organisational memory, data architecture, human and machine intelligence, and the design of new target operating models. His work extends beyond the enterprise into national and international policy. Through his engagement with the United Nations and UNITAR, and his wider research, Richard examines national AI policies across countries, including the interaction between AI, data, existing and emerging legislation, workforce, economics and societal impact.
For the past four years, Richard has also led a practical research programme into human amplification through AI, including the development of his own persistent human digital twin, Digital Richard. This allows the architectural research to be tested in practice, exploring how human knowledge, experience, reasoning and judgement can be combined with AI while retaining the human as the source of original intelligence.
